Ryan is a special advisor to VC, where he runs diligence across the therapeutics, diagnostics, and medical device pipelines. A practicing physician and Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Northwestern Medicine, Ryan brings frontline clinical expertise to the firm’s evaluation of early-stage medtech and life sciences companies, assessing whether the science holds up and how it will perform in real patients and real clinical workflows.  

Ryan serves as a physician mentor in the Northwestern Medicine–Techstars Healthcare Accelerator partnership, coaching a selective cohort of early-stage health-tech startup on clinical workflow integration, product-market fit, and health-system navigation. He also teaches ophthalmology residents, where he has received multiple teaching awards.

He earned his MD from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, his MBA at Kellogg School of Management, completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, served as a Fulbright Scholar in Canada, and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Northwestern University with a BA in biochemistry.
